Tamiflu is effective in preventing influenza in people who may have been exposed but are not yet presenting symptoms, or are high risk due to exposure to the virus (recommended for medical and education system staff ). Tamiflu is also effective when used to treat patients who have presented symptoms for less than two days. 
Tamiflu will not treat the common cold.
